Cell transplantation therapy using iPS cells represents a potential solution to the problems of scarcity of organ and tissue donors and immunorejection, and shows great promise in ushering in a new era of regenerative medicine. Our mission is to establish systems that will enable iPS cell–therapy to be safe, effective and available to all those who need it.
iPS cells are new and unique in several aspects as a therapeutic resource, and various organizations are now holding discussions on their regulation. We seek to develop strategies for the realization of the promise of iPS cell therapy in close cooperation with other laboratories, the relevant authorities and other stakeholders, and are working to open "FiT"(Facility for iPS cell Therapy) to process the cells in accordance with regulatory criteria. Moreover, we are planning to establish an "iPS cells bank for cell therapy" to provide patients with medical treatments using quality-controlled iPS cells and their derivatives in a timely fashion.
