World's first clinical trial for a drug candidate found from an iPS cell model

Kyoto University Hospital announced the first clinical trial for a drug candidate discovered by iPS cell experiments. The project, led by Professor Junya Toguchida, was granted approval by Kyoto University's internal review board for clinical trials in June. The university hospital notified the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) last month for the use of rapamycin to treat patients suffering from fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP). The clinical trial will begin in September.

The findings that led to the clinical trial can be seen here.
