Dr. Shinya Yamanaka re-selected for a second term as the director of CiRA

On February 10, the CiRA Executive Board reappointed Dr. Shinya Yamanaka as the CiRA director, and Drs. Tatsutoshi Nakahata and Junya Toguchida as deputy directors. The term runs from April 1 to March 31, 2014.

Dr. Yamanaka said "I will continue to take responsibility for managing this center to achieve our four goals. Our focus this year is to generate clinical–grade iPS cells for regenerative medicine. Your continued support and understanding would be greatly appreciated."

CiRA's four goals are:

  1. To establish basic technologies and securing intellectual properties.
  2. To use patient–derived iPS cells in drug discovery.
  3. To establish clinical grade iPS cells.
  4. To conduct preclinical and clinical studies on a few diseases.
