Kyoto University announces punishment against research misconduct

Kyoto University announced on March 28 that it has punitively dismissed Kohei Yamamizu, a Specially-Appointed Assistant Professor at the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA), for his research misconduct in a paper in which he was the first and corresponding author.

We deeply apologize to those who have supported our activities for this dereliction. CiRA has reinforced its measures to prevent research fraud from happening again and remains committed to the clinical application of iPS cell technologies.

Director Shinya Yamanaka's message
I feel a strong responsibility for not having prevented research misconduct at our institute. As CiRA Director, I have received a penalty from the university for my poor supervision of research integrity. To express my remorse, I have decided to donate to the iPS Cell Research Fund voluntarily. I will do my best to regain the public trust to our institute by conducting preventive measures against research misconduct.
